Who we are

Our History
Picture of the church founders
1950 - 1967

Bernice Bean and Verbal, her 17 year-old son, felt the call of God to pioneer a church on the east side of Houston. Beginning with home meetings and a strong emphasis on the power of prayer, they moved to Woodland Acres Elementary School in the east side of Houston. When Bernice’s health failed, Verbal and his wife, Anita, became pastors of the First Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ on Dewey Street.

1977 - 1988

While returning home from Louisiana, Verbal Bean was instantly killed in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. Charles and Bonnie Free were installed as pastors. The church moved from Dewey Street to a new location at 13334 Wallisville Road, and the name was changed to Christian Tabernacle. Our Pastor, a successful crusade evangelist for 19 years, came on staff as co-pastor, and the following year became senior pastor. To survive financially, the small group of 70 members had continual fundraisers, such as: peanut brittle, pies, tamales, take-out dinners, and newspaper inserts.

1996

On a Sunday morning in October, a remarkable divine visitation forever transformed our concept of “having church.” As our pastor read from the Book of 2 Chronicles, the power of God struck the pulpit, split it in two parts, and threw him backward to the floor. So dynamic was this visible manifestation, some saw angels and others experienced miraculous healings and demonstrations of the Spirit. For almost three months, unpredictable services focused on repentance and seeking God’s face, rather than His gifts. This dramatic encounter not only revolutionized our pastor’s ministry, but left a perpetual anointing upon this congregation.

2002 - 2014

As a future expansion, 48.2 acres of prime property was purchased on Beltway 8 at Garrett Road. As preliminary building plans were formulated, a Capital Stewardship Campaign was introduced in May 2008 for the new facility. However, in September of that year, Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area, causing major church damage, followed by the worst economic recession in modern times. Emergency repairs included new floor tile for the first level of the building and a complete church make-over. Instead of our intended $7 million stewardship goal, we raised a total of $3.3 million, which was spent on architectural fees, several building expenditures, and in 2014, full payment of the land. (What a blessing that we postponed building during the recession!)

2019

The church moved from Wallisville Road to our current location, and the name was changed to Inspire Church. Since moving, we have had to expand parking multiple times, as well as install additional seating to accommodate our growing family. God is GOOD!

Join God's family in membership.

To bring believers into the fellowship of our church family by inspiring them to commit to the responsibilities and benefits of church membership.

Our Vision
Our vision is to help you achieve God’s plan for you and your family.

It’s not about how you can help the church, but what can be accomplished if you discover the unique gifting that will elevate your life, and the Church. We want to Reach our first-time guests, Inspire them to discover their special gifts that the Bible says will Elevate our lives!

Reach

In this first stage of growth and spiritual maturity, Inspire members demonstrate their love for Christ by accepting Him as their Savior, submitting to water baptism, learning to pray and read God’s Word, supporting the Kingdom of God, and attending church each Sunday. But so much more is available for those who are willing to progress to the next stage.

Inspire

In this stage, an Inspire member begins to demonstrate their love for God’s people. Our devotion to Him is incomplete if we’re not willing to interact and serve His people. The body of Christ functions in a much healthier way when we learn to fellowship with His family. So, Inspire members are encouraged not to just serve, but serve according to their unique passion and gifting so that they may receive Elevation.

Elevate

The third stage of our vision is to equip you for ministry. In Jesus’ parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), the two servants who wisely used their talents were entrusted with more. But the talent was taken from the servant who failed to use it and given to the one who had gladly invested what had been given him.At Inspire church, we want to help you discover the unique passion and gift mix the Lord has given you. Proverbs 18:16 says: “A man’s gifts will make room for him.” While the church will receive some benefit from members who serve in areas where they are not gifted, so much more can be accomplished when people discover the specific way God wants them to serve. We want doors of divine elevation to open for you. Those doors could be relational, vocational, financial, or even doors of ministry. The church benefits most when you are being elevated through your own personal, unique way of serving. You win, the church benefits, and our community is reached!

Our Beliefs
We believe...

In one God, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

That our Lord Jesus Christ was begotten, not created, and was truly God and truly Man. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a vicarious and atoning death for the sins of the world, resurrected bodily for our justification, and now reigns in glory until all things will be put under His feet.

That Scripture was given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit and is without error as the Spirit moved upon holy men of old. Furthermore, we believe that the church has no authority to establish any doctrine or practice contrary to these Scriptures, which were accepted as canon by the early Christian Church.

That man was made in the image of God and is the crowning feature of creation. We are now, because of the fall, spiritually depraved and alienated from our Creator. Apart from God’s grace, we have no ability to attain to His high calling

That the Christian Church is imperfectly represented on earth by various Christian institutions. While the unity of the Church is spiritual and its culture diverse, we believe its mission is eternal.

That the ministries of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher will function within the Body of Christ until the Lord returns. Furthermore, these ministries are gifts to the Church for the purpose of “equipping saints for the work of the ministry” and to edify every member of the Body of Christ.

That justification is by grace through faith in our Lord’s sacrifice on Calvary.

The identity of the Body of Christ on earth is primarily recognized in the local church. While we encourage voluntarily associating with other local churches and agreeing on fundamental doctrines and conduct, we strongly confess that the local church is sovereign and autonomous.

In the right of local churches and ministries to form temporal institutions to assist in doing the work of God. At the same time, we reject sectarianism and divisiveness as great evils.

In the priesthood of the believer and that all people who are born of God have equal status and direct access to our Lord.

In the spiritual unity of all who are born of God. We confess this belief among those with whom we disagree, those who do not confess us, and others whom we exclude because of our unwilling ignorance.

That those who are called by the name of Christ should depart from all forms of unrighteous living. Understanding that salvation only begins the process of redemption, we acknowledge that an ongoing work of the Holy Spirit will create in us the character of Christ.

In the literal second coming of our Lord, that Christ will rule upon the earth, the righteous will be resurrected to eternal life and the unrighteous to eternal damnation, and the ultimate victory of the eternal Kingdom of God.
